Back on the Irish Loop, after leaving Ferryland, many telephone poles are not sunk
into the ground, but rather are sunk into a pile of rocks in a small wooden pen.
Other poles are sunk into the ground. We were given two different explanations.
One was that the land was too rocky to sink a pole in some areas.
The other was that using rock piles was the "older" way to place the poles.
